Summer Campus participants visited Kazan

On the fourth day of the Campus the students immersed themselves in the culture of Tatarstan and went on a tour of Kazan. The participants also presented their projects at the pre-defense consultation.

The key event of July 15 was the students’ trip to Kazan. In the capital of Tatarstan they got acquainted with the main attractions of the city and learned more about the rich traditions and customs of the region.

As part of the tour, students visited the Kazan Kremlin, the city’s main landmark. It is the oldest part of Kazan, a complex of architectural monuments, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the walk around the Kremlin the students went to the Old Tatar Quarter («Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda»): they saw the painted wooden farmsteads, learned more about traditional folk crafts and Tatar national dishes.

Another important point on the itinerary was a visit to the URAM park, the largest extreme park in Russia. Minister of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan Damir Fattakhov had already talked about it in his lecture, and now the students had a chance to see it for themselves. And Maria Kryukova, the director of the park for rollers, skaters, basketball players and all others interested, gave the tour.

Back at the Sviyaga Hills sports and recreation complex, the students continued working on their projects. On the same day there was a pre-defense consultation with Sam Potolicchio, professor of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the founder and president of Global Leaders Forum. He praised the students for their interesting ideas and advised what to focus on in their future work.

The students spent the evening playing board games, and had a gathering in the end of this busy day, where they shared their impressions.
